Mandarin
The Chinese language Mandarin is taught from Year 1 through to Year 6 with one hour of instruction per week.
A rolling 2-3 year program based on the WA Languages Curriculum is implemented across the years.
For the younger grades there is a focus on learning basic greetings, colours, numbers, fruits, family and common characters which are taught through songs, games, repetition and crafts.
For the older students a range of topics are covered to enable students to communicate about their world: food, weather, sports, hobbies, their daily routine, home, likes and dislikes.
Students are motivated to learn through both in-house and interschool competitions for speaking, writing and online learning.
The online learning program Education Perfect is used from Year 3-6 to cater to the range of ability levels.
Chinese Culture is taught across all levels through regular hands on activities and is celebrated in Term 4 on Chinese Day with costumes, incursion classes, food and other activities.
